1. TravellingNepal by Air:

• A valid Indian passport or an election Id is the only valid document for adults (12 year & above).
• For children below the age of 12 years the school or college id suffices.
• The id should clearly reflect the traveler’s picture, school or college name, date of birth as well as the class
  in which the student is studying.
• Request that this be checked with Indian Immigration authorities at your end too. This information stands

• Respect for Religion: Nepal is a predominantly Hindu and Buddhist country. Always be respectful when
  visiting temples, stupas, and other religious sites. Do not touch religious icons, and always walk around
  stupas in a clockwise direction.
• Greeting: The traditional Nepali greeting is “Namaste” with hands pressed together in a prayer-like
  position.

3. Permits for Trekking and Mountaineering:

• Trekking Permits: If you plan to trek in Nepal, certain areas require special permits (e.g., Annapurna
  Conservation Area, Sagarmatha National Park). You can obtain these permits from the Nepal Tourism
  Board or authorized agents.
• Trekking Guidelines: Ensure you are well-prepared for trekking. Hiring a local guide or porter is
  advisable for safety, especially in remote areas.

4. Behavior and Etiquette:

• Photography: Always ask for permission before photographing people, particularly in rural areas or in

  restricted.

7. Money and Currency:

• Currency: The local currency is the Nepali Rupee (NPR). Major credit cards are accepted in cities and
  popular tourist areas, but it’s good to carry cash when traveling to remote areas.
• ATMs: ATMs are available in Kathmandu and other major towns, but not always in remote regions.
• The New Indian notes of INR 200, 500 as well as the 2000 denominations are not a valid tender currency
  in Nepal. Or in fact any denomination above INR 100 notes are not valid in Nepal. INR 100 notes and below
  are accepted. The maximum amount of Indian Currency one can carry is INR 25000 per person in 100
  denomination and below.
• Tipping: Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. A tip of 10% is typical in restaurants, and it is
  common to tip guides, porters, and drivers.

Emergency Numbers and Communication:

• Emergency Services: The emergency number for police is 100, for ambulance 102, and for fire services
  101.
• SIM Cards/Internet: You can buy a local SIM card for affordable data and phone services. Internet access is
  available in most urban areas and some rural areas.
